The Importance of Accessibility

  • Accessibility is an important issue when working on the web
  • Anyone who is unable to view a monitor, or use a keyboard or mouse must have the web page read to them
  • Accessibility is also important for sighted users who have specific problems viewing web pages such as color blindness
  • It is up to website designers and developers to be sure that website content is accessible to everyone
  • The 508 standard was created in the US but there is a worldwide standard created by the W3C, the worldwide organization that controls standards and makes recommendations for the internet
  • The accessibility standards are based on 4 different terms described at
  • It is up to you to follow and plan for accessibility for your website
  • Also keep in mind that many people will be using touch devices to view your pages

The Importance of Accessibility
