Linking to Files Outside Your Website

  • A link to files or pages outside your website is known as an absolute link
  • Absolute links require the protocol portion of the url to be added in order work correctly
  • You can browse to the page or file and copy the link to paste within Dreamweaver, or type the url directly into Dreamweaver
  • If you type or paste a link into the Link area in the Properties panel, be sure to hit return/enter after typing or pasting the link
    • Add a link to on the Austria.html page
    • Preview in the browser and notice what happens when you click the links
    • If we close the browser window, we are now off of the website
    • We want to open a new browser window or new tab within the browser for these pages
    • We will add the target of _blank to our hyperlinks to be sure a new tab or new window opens for the link
    • Preview in the browser and notice the new tab or new window that opens
    • We will also add a link to on the destinations page for Minneapolis

Linking to Files Outside Your Website

Lecture Slides are screen-captured images of important points in the lecture. Students can download and print out these lecture slide images to do practice problems as well as take notes while watching the lecture.
