Setting Dreamweaver Preferences

  • Dreamweaver has a preferences area where you can set default options within the program
  • We will modify a few settings within the preferences area
  • Go to Edit->Preferences (PC) or Dreamweaver-> Preferences (Mac)
  • The left column shows the various categories within preferences
  • We will set the default file type, extension and doctype preferences within the program
  • General category:
    • Editing Options area:
      • Uncheck the 5th checkbox in Editing Options that says "Use <strong> and <em> in place of <b> and <i>" so Dreamweaver uses the b and I tags in code view for HTML5
    • By default HTML only allows a single space between characters, to add additional spaces, we must change a preference within Dreamweaver
      • Check "Allow multiple consecutive spaces"
  • New Document category:
    • Change the DOCTYPE to HTML5
    • Set the default format to .html
    • Show htm/html option – we could change to .htm as default, our site is .html
    • Turn off new document interface by unchecking the last checkbox
  • Preview in Browser Category:
    • No changes made, but is possible to add additional browsers for previewing your pages in this area
  • Fonts Category:
    • Dreamweaver CC has a new font available for code view called Source Code Pro to make it easier to read code
