Required Fields in HTML5

  • Form validation is a way to test the data a user enters in order to be sure it was entered correctly
  • There are 2 places to validate forms, client-side and server-side
  • Client side validation takes place in the browser and is done before the data is sent to the server
  • Server-side validation is done once the data has been received on the web server
  • If server-side validation does not pass, the form is sent back to the user along with a message on the page telling them what is wrong
  • We will be looking at new client-side validation features offered in HTML5
  • HTML5 validation offers new ways to validation your form without the need to create JavaScript to do it
  • XHTML does not offer any type of form validation, so JavaScript always has to be added to the HTML page for client-side form validation
  • HTML5 offers new types of form field elements including email, phone, date, and many other new form field
  • These new form fields offer the ability to validate a field without the need to use JavaScript
  • The contact us form for Tranquil Travel will use HTML5 form fields
  • Dreamweaver CC supports HTML5 form validation which makes it easy to work with these new fields
