Watts Learning Center Charter School opened in 1997 to provide students in kindergarten through 5th grades with an alternative to traditional school. The school works with students on a personal level to ensure each student become productive members of society. The school is predominantly African American.

The school does not offer any sports or extra curricular activities.

Parents are thrilled that the school offers a wonderful curriculum with caring teachers. Some are a bit disappointed that the school does not have any physical education but does provide all kinds of fun activities. Students love the school and the teachers. Many parents expressed just how much their kids love school and cannot wait to go.

The Academic Performance Index increased 17 points to 870. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are very proud of the school and teachers that made this score happen.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. Watts Learning Center Charter Middle School opened in 2009 to provide students in 6th and 7th grades with an alternative to traditional school. The school works with students on a personal level to ensure each student become productive members of society. The school is predominantly African American.

The school at this time does not offer sports or other activities.

Parents are happy with the curriculum but are not pleased that the school does not offer any type of physical fitness or sports. All efforts are focused academics, which are good, but students also need outdoor activities. Students are very happy attending school and like their teachers. The majority of students expressed they would like the opportunity to participate in sports.

The Academic Performance Index increased 17 points to 870. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are very happy with the score along with the API statewide rank of 7 out of 10.

Watsonville Charter School of the Arts Review

Watsonville Charter School of the Arts opened in 2001 to serve students in kindergarten through 8th grades with an alternative to traditional school settings. The school integrates visual arts, drama, music, and dance, into science, math, language arts, and social studies. Music as well as visual arts are included in the core subjects.

The majority of parents truly love the school and the teachers. Some parents expressed that the younger classes have the best teachers and that as the children graduate into the higher classes that teachers are not as kind and are often bullied by other students. Students really like the curriculum, which helps them learn.

Washington Elementary School Review

Washington Elementary School opened in 1996 to serve students in pre-kindergarten and kindergarten with a head start on a quality education. The charter school emphasizes reading, writing, phonetics, and sight word approach.

Parents are very pleased with the progress they are seeing with their children. Parents expressed that the kids love school and their teachers. Many parents could not believe their kindergarten children could actually do math problems. Students are very happy going to school and are enjoying learning new things every day.

The school offers a variety of activities and events throughout the school year.

The majority of parents really love the school and the teachers. The school as mentioned by quite a few parents has a large amount of parents involved in the school. Some parents are not as pleased with the office staff or the fact that the school is always asking for money for extra events. Walter L. Bachrodt Elementary School (Bachrodt Charter Academy) opened in 2008 to provide students an alternative to traditional school with a two bilingual Spanish immersion program. The school serves students in kindergarten through 5th grades.

Even though, the school does not offer sports or other extra curricular activities there are activities and events planned throughout the year.

The majority of parents are very happy with the curriculum and the school. Several parents like the way that teachers work with students to ensure their success pointing out that students with special needs are treated equal to other students and are provided the same respect. Parents said that students are doing very well and enjoying going to school. Students like the school but would like to see more activities such as soccer available.

Wallis Annenberg High School Review

Wallis Annenberg High School opened in 2003 to serve students in 9th through 12th grades with a quality education that will prepare each student mentally and academically for entering college. The focus is on ensuring the success of each student.

Along with core subjects, the school offers sports, which include basketball, soccer, volleyball, football, and softball. Extra curricular activities include Astronomy Club, The Outsiders Club, Rock Band, and MESA.

Most parents are pleased with the curriculum but a few stated that the principal does not really listen to parents and often cuts them off when they are asking questions. Many parents believe the teachers are very good but that they are hampered by administration mainly in the last few years. Quite a few parents stated that after the school received a new principal, things have been going down hill. Students on the other hand like most of the teachers. A few complaints from students are that the school does not have enough activities and sports available.

The percentage of students passing the exams was mainly below state averages except for 53% of 10th graders passed the chemistry exam with the state at 51%, 80% of 10th graders passed the summative math exam with the state at 75%, 55% of 10th graders passed the science exam with the state average at 53%, and 56% of 10th graders passed the world history exam with the state at 46%.

the California High School Exit Exam tests 10th graders mastering skills in English language arts and mathematics. The percentage of students passing the English exam was 90% with the state at 83% and in math 95% with the state at 84%.

Walden Academy opened in 2011 to provide students with a quality education for students in 1st through 6th grades. The school offers natural resources based curriculum that was created in a way to get students engaged in learning beyond the curriculum.

Along with core subjects, the school offers after school programs that include sports, games, community service, homework help, and more. The school offers enrichment classes once per week and offers a science fair yearly and student council.

Parents really like the school and express it is an extension of the community. The teachers as well as all staff put the children first. The school is safe and nurturing, which is the most common opinion of parents. Students are excited to go to school and love their teachers.

Voices College-Bound Language Academy Review

Voices College-Bound Language Academy opened in 2007 as a dual immersion charter school to serve students in kindergarten through 8th grades with a quality education based on California state standards as well as programs in the fine arts, music, field trips, and science enrichment. The college bound program known as Pathways is an excellent program that shows students the connection between what they are learning in school and their future career.

The opinions of parents were diverse with some parents stating that the staff, teachers, and principal are rude and do not communicate with parents. However, the majority of parents love the school stated that teachers were amazing, and their children love attending school. The school is safe, teachers are committed, and they have never had an issue with communication. Students only complained that they would like to see more activities added to the school.

Students are very happy going to school and really like their teachers. Other parents expressed they love the country setting and family atmosphere.
