Vivian Banks Charter School Review

Vivian Banks Charter School opened in 1996 to offer families the opportunity to receive a quality education with individualized instruction with small groups. The school serves students in kindergarten through 5th grades. The school offers a wonderful blend of academics and technology as well as community involvement. The school serves Native American Indians and provides a unique opportunity for students to embrace their heritage via many events and activities throughout the year.

Parents love the school atmosphere and all the teachers. Staff and administration are very dedicated to providing students with all the resources and tools to ensure they succeed and are prepared for the remainder of their educational years. Students are very happy going to school and really like their teachers. Other parents expressed they love the country setting and family atmosphere.

The Academic Performance Index increased 63 points to 831. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are very pleased with the increase.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was mixed. Examples include 85% of 2nd graders passed the math exam with the state average at 64%, 25% of 3rd graders passed the English exam with the state at 48%, and 63% of 4th graders passed the math exam with the state average at 71%. Parents were not very concerned as it provides teachers with the information they need to help students improve in these areas.

The school is providing a wonderful education and safe learning environment. If you have concerns regarding the results of the exams, it would be a good idea to discuss your concerns with administration before enrolling your child.
