Riverbend Preparatory Review

Riverbend Preparatory opened in 2008 in Laveen as a charter school for students in kindergarten through 6th grades. The school works with students to ensure their needs are met to develop life long learners that are prepared to become productive members of society. The school works with core subjects along with a challenging curriculum that will build strong character.

The school provides a flexible schedule with extended school days and a rigorous curriculum, which includes Harcourt Brace Science, SRA Math, and Open Court Reading, as examples. The school year is not like your traditional school as it extends one hour per day and 20 days per year. This gives students a better education with close to four years more learning than students that attend a traditional school. The school administration believes that a close relationship between home and school is very important and parent involvement is very important with a child’s education.

Along with core subjects students have the opportunity to join various extra curricular activities, sports, and clubs including chorus, dance, band, computer arts, cheerleading, basketball, soccer, physical education classes, and science & technology.

The most impressive thing about Riverbend Preparatory is that parents are noticing their children performing a grade level above their actual grade in different core subjects such as reading and math. The teachers are very caring and work with students on their level even if it is two grade levels above their actual grade. The school works diligently to improve the community with various events that parents can attend from bingo nights to carnivals to breakfasts. The school is doing a great job in the community and in the life of children helping them grow emotionally, socially, and academically.

When comparing the remarks of parents with the AIMS series of tests, it does not seem that the school is actually preparing students with adequate training. The percentage of 3rd graders that passed the exams were above average in reading and math, but were below average in writing. Fourth, fifth and sixth graders were below average in all courses.

It would be in your best interest to talk with teachers and administration to learn more about the curriculum before enrolling your child in the school. The low percentage of students passing the exam is something to consider before enrolling your child.
