PPEP TEC – Celestino Fernandez Learning Center Review

Celestino Fernandez Learning Center is a charter school in the PPEC TEC group that utilizes a computer-based curriculum. The school mainly works with students to graduate high school and join the workforce offering school to work electives. This campus opened in Tucson in 2000 for students in 9th through 12th grades as an alternative to traditional schools.

The school does have qualified teachers on hand for any student that may need help with their courses. The staff and teachers work diligently to ensure that each student has the opportunity to achieve their goal of graduating high and receiving their high school diploma along with the ability for accelerated learning that allows them to graduate from high school in three years. The school offers day, afternoon, and night classes to ensure that students can choose the time they wish to attend which increases their success.

The main reason many choose Celestino Fernandez Learning Center is the flexibility and the small class size. Students are very pleased with the help they receive from staff and teachers. Many have expressed the school is a safe environment with caring teachers.

According to the campus, PPEC TEC offers an array of clubs and extra curricular activities which may include gardening, prom, yearbook, soccer, service learning, girl scouts youth leadership, basketball, student council, and LULAC. One of the greatest features of the school is the ability for students to volunteer in their communities. This provides students with experience in different fields as well as provides the community with a more close-knit arrangement with the school creating a learning environment that extends the school property.

The percentage of students that passed the AIMS series of tests in 10th grade does cause some worry. In reading, 45% passed the exam with the state average at 80%; in science only 5% passed with the state average at 42%, while in writing 37% passed with the state average at 70%, and in math, only 16% passed with the state average at 60%.

The low test scores may show that the school is not providing the educational tools needed for students to graduate high school. Before enrolling your child, it would be in your best interest to learn more.
