King Chavez – Athletics Academy Review

King Chavez – Athletics Academy opened in 2005 for students in grades 3rd through 5th. The main objective of the charter school is to provide excellence in academics, the arts and athletics for each and every student. They want students to feel safe, challenged academically and athletically and be productive members of society.

The students here all challenged each day with academics as well as a variety of athletic programs. The body has to be in as good of shape as the brain. They provide daily physical education classes and a fitness arcade to get students moving. There is also a swimming/surfing program, league based soccer program and YMCA swimming.

Parents gave King Chavez – Athletics Academy great reviews saying they love that the staff focuses on the whole body for success. The teachers are nice and encouraging. Students stated that they love going to school because they can play soccer and go to an arcade during school.

The Academic Performance Index showed an increase in academic growth from 767 to 773. The statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

Each grade at King Chavez – Athletics Academy showed scores higher and lower than that of the state averages, for example 66% of 5th graders passed their Math exam with the state at 65%. 4th graders showed results of 67% in the same subject with the state at 71%. For the 3rd grade English Language Arts exam 36% passed, with the state average was 48%.

The school is doing a very good job preparing students for life. It would still be a good idea to take a tour to ensure the learning environment is one that will help your child succeed.
