Animo Charter High No. 1 also known as Animo Locke 1 College Preparatory Academy opened in 2008 for students in grades 9th through 12th school. The school is now part of the Locke Family of High Schools that offers six college prep schools. The college prep curriculum provides students with the tools needed to prepare them for their remaining years of school upon graduation. The school is centered on preparing students for college.

Along with core subjects, Animo Charter High No. 1 offers extra curricular activities, sports, and student clubs which include debate, science & technology, yearbook, multimedia, newspaper, student government, baseball, basketball, football, cross country, physical education classes, softball, soccer, tennis, ultimate Frisbee, rock climbing, track, volleyball, drama, sculpture, chorus, photography, band, film production, orchestra, computer arts, dance, and drawing. Vocation programs are also available including automotive, agriculture, health careers, professional childcare, technology, law enforcement, and food service.

The school is creating a great environment for students to learn and become productive members of society. Since the school became the Locke Family of High Schools the reputation of the schools are improving. With dedicated teachers and staff the school is improving and more parents are seeing the huge change and the way teachers are truly excited about teaching students. Parents are very pleased with the changes that occurring so their students can receive a quality education in a nurturing environment.

The results of the California Standards tests showed that all grades and all courses were below state average. However, one must remember that the school has been going through a transition as many parents expressed. Students are doing better than in previous years. Taking a tour of the school and talking with other parents will give you a good idea if the school is meeting state standards and if students are doing better than before the school became the Locke Family of High Schools.
