Understanding Optimization

  • Optimization is the process of converting images into the best format and smallest file size to be used on a web page
  • Each image varies so always test the image in all file types
  • Some formats will lower the quality of the image
  • Other formats allow you to reduce file size without losing quality
  • Every image that goes onto a web page should be optimized in order to keep the file size down
  • Even though it may seem like optimization is not necessary, the load time for a web page is very important and can affect usability of a web site
