### Introduction to Programs

• Sample program: sometimes there are problems that MATLAB cannot solve in one line, a collection of statements to solve such a problem is called a program.
• How to start: from MATLAB desktop select: File → New → M-file, or click the new file button on the desktop toolbar.
• How a program works: MATLAB is called an interpreter as opposed to compiler. This means that each statement is translated into a language that computer understands and then immediately carried out.
