Steve, great information on Servers, especially interested in the Apache, as I have been talking with a friend on setting up an e-commerce site and the best way to test before going live.

Steve, you don't really explain how to set up the server. You can't explain students at an introductory course to know how to setup and run a server. it's not really intuitive for the average windows/office user.

Setting Up the Server

  • MAMP is a free web tool that will help setup an Apache server.
  • MAMP stands for Macintosh, Apache, MySQL, and PHP.
  • PhpMyAdmin is the interface that helps manage your database.
  • Web hosting is necessary to put your website out to the World Wide Web.
  • Domain registration is the .com name users will type into the browser address bar to go to your website.
