Saint Joseph’s University is an amalgamation of traditions and follows the Catholic and Jesuit way of instilling in students the education and values that will stand them in good stead throughout their personal and professional lives. Students are shown how to achieve a balance between scholarly, artistic and educational endeavors. The college, in true Jesuit tradition, ensures it integrates everything that helps students learn and move toward successful careers and better lives. The ethics-driven and challenging curriculum places emphasis on the liberal arts and sciences while imparting the required practical experience. Outside the classroom, students are encouraged to participate in activities that help with personal development. Academic freedom takes on important nuances of meaning in this institution with a religious identity.
The Society of Jesus founded Saint Joseph’s University in 1851 to advance professional and personal goals of students by offering a highly supporting but demanding educational experience. Today, this university is part of 28 Jesuit institutions in the United States. Initially, it imparted instruction to boys only but that changed in 1970 and the current coeducational system came into existence. The main campus is on the edge of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Students have the option to either attend classes on the main campus or pursue their studies online. Well-known as one of the 139 schools in the nation with AACSB business school accreditation, the university today has more than 8,800 students enrolled in all their programs.
St. Joseph’s University offers more than 75 undergraduate programs that lead to Certificates, Associate’s, and Bachelor’s degrees; over 45 graduate programs; 30 semester abroad programs and an Ed.D in Educational Leadership. Instruction is imparted through the College of Arts and Sciences; The College of Professional and Liberal Studies; the Erivan K. Haub School of Business; and the School of Graduate Studies and Graduate Business. While the school is highly appreciated for all its programs, the Haub School of Business Master’s Programs have been ranked the best in the city of Philadelphia and as the 8th best in the region. The undergraduate programs received recognition in the Business Week and Princeton Review. This college will prove to be a great choice for students with an interest in community service, having been placed in the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll by the Corporation for National and Community Service’s 2007.
St. Joseph’s makes its programs available to students who cannot attend college and wish to study from home. Through their online programs, students can work toward Master’s degrees in Instructional Technology, Business Intelligence, Financial Services, Professional MBA, Criminal Justice, Health Administration and many more. The curriculum is easy to follow but in-depth and is not unlike the one students attending college physically work on. The college provides interaction-based instruction to online students and they benefit greatly from the ability to discuss anything with their professors and other students. Assignments come with flexibility but with deadlines to meet. Online students have access to all possible resources they may need.
Being challenged to exceed their highest ambition helps students and fosters an increased desire to learn and shape the world. The all-inclusive environment marked by enriched ideas and the high level of support ensures students are transformed into individuals with better ability to handle their careers to perfection as well as the challenges of life while being compassionate to everything around them.
