Westwind Middle School Review

Westwind Middle School is a public charter school offering a challenging curriculum that instills moral direction. The school provides a caring learning environment for students in 6th through 8th grade with an average enrollment of 100 students. Instead of only worrying about the academic standards the school works with the whole child by being dedicated to the physical, mental, and moral development of each student.

The curriculum is one that works with each student individually so each can learn with their own style while instilling moral character and responsibility. Along with core subjects, the school offers soccer, flag football, and basketball

The majority of the remarks from parents are negative. The complaints are changing teachers each year; teachers are not devoted and are not qualified. The school does not have proper security and discipline is almost nonexistence. A few parents are very happy with the school and the way their children are learning. Comments are very mixed with parents far apart, on how they feel about the school.

To see if the school is providing the educational tools for students to succeed we can look at the percentage of students that passed the AIMS exams. The percentage of sixth graders that passed the exams was extremely well in reading and writing with 100% passing, however, only 50% passed the math exam, which was 11% below state average. Seventh graders did well in reading with 94% passing, but in writing only 24% passed which put them 20% below average and in math 59% passed which was 3% below state average. Eighth graders only did well in writing with 92% passing the exam and below average in reading by 20%, in science by 13%, and in math by almost 20%.

Since the reviews from parents are very mixed and the percentage of students passing the exams are also up and down quite a bit, it would be best to learn more about the curriculum as well as the teacher turn over in the school.
