View Park Preparatory Accelerated Charter Elementary School Review

View Park Preparatory Accelerated Charter Elementary School opened in 1999 for students in kindergarten through 5th grades. The school provides students with the opportunity to receive an education that is in compliance with California state standards. The student body is predominantly African American.

The school does not provide any student clubs, sports, or extra curricular activities but focuses on preparing students to go onward to college.

Both parents and students are happy with the curriculum and most teachers. Some parents expressed that bullying is a huge problem even in kindergarten and in many cases; teachers turn their back on the problems. Students stated that they do feel safe at school but that there are a few issues with some students. Other students stated they would like to see sports and student clubs offered instead of just academics.

The Academic Performance Index declined 54 points to 833. This was a huge shock to most parents but they are still pleased that the score is above the statewide goal. Other parents are very proud of the 9 out 10 API statewide rank.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was above average in all grade levels and all subjects except for 43% of 4th graders passing the math exam with the state average at 71% and 38% of 5th graders passing the math exam with the state at 65%. Parents were not too concerned as teachers can work on math to improve these percentages.

The school is providing an excellent education but as stated by a few parents may have a few other issues that need addressed. If you have any concerns, it would be a good idea to talk with other parents that have students enrolled.
