Valley Oaks Charter School opened in 2000 to provide a program for students that are home schooled with enrichment classes, and an array of academic and community activities. The school serves students in kindergarten through 10th grades.
The school does not offer sports, student clubs or extra curricular activities but provides resources for community activities.
Parents are thrilled with the school and the personal attention the students receive. The school helps provide resources to help students excel at their own pace. The school provides expert teachers that help families create a curriculum that fits the needs of their children. The best part of all is that the school allows students to participate in theater, science fairs, and music unlike other home school programs. Students love being able to go to school at home but still have friends and fun when attending events.
The Academic Performance Index increased 2 points to 750. The statewide goal is 800. Parents realize the score is a bit below state average but are still pleased with the score.
The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams was mainly below state averages except for 5th grade science; 8th grade Algebra I; 9th grade Algebra I, English, General Math, geometry, and Earth Science; 10th grade biology, English, geometry, science, and world history; and 11th grade English and US History, which were all above state averages.
The California High School Exit Exam tests 10th graders mastering skills in English language arts and mathematics. 88% of students passed the English exam with the state average at 83% and 83% passed the math exam with the state at 84%.
The school is providing a wonderful opportunity for families that wish to home school their children. To ensure the environment is the best for your child, you should talk with administration and other parents before enrolling your child.
