University Charter School (Lemoore) Review

University Charter School (Lemoore) opened in 2002 to provide families in the area with an alterative to traditional schools. The school serves students in kindergarten through 6th grades. The Lemoore campus is home on 17 acres, which offers a variety of options for students. The student body is diverse including Hispanic, Caucasian, African American, Filipino, Asian, and American Indian.

Along with core subjects, the school offers an array of other activities to enrich the lives of students which include field trips, athletics, student council, science fair, Peach Blossom Oral Interpretation Festival, in house television broadcasts, spelling bee, high school mentors, and outdoor education, to name a few. .

The majority of parents had positive comments regarding the teachers. Most are very pleased with all the activities that are blended in with the curriculum to ensure students do not become bored and want to learn. The curriculum is challenging and several parents are involved, which makes it a wonderful experience for students. Students expressed they like their teachers and the fun activities.

The Academic Performance Index increased 33 points to 834. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are very happy with the score and rest assured their children are receiving a quality education.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was mixed. Examples include 64% of 6th graders passed the English exam with the state at 59%, 70% of 7th graders passed the math exam with the state at 52%, and 34% of 8th graders passed the Algebra I exam with the state average at 49%.

Overall, the school is providing the educational tools students need to succeed. To ensure the learning environment will help your child excel, it would be a good idea to take a tour before enrollment.
