Twin Rivers Charter School Review

Twin Rivers Charter School opened in 2004 to provide students in kindergarten through 8th grades with an alternative to traditional schools. The school offers the core knowledge sequence with a focus on technology. The school offers a variety of instructional models, which include direct instruction; standards based, and individually guided instruction.

Along with core subjects, the school offers drawing, painting, instrumental music lessons, yearbook, basketball, flag football, soccer, and volleyball.

The majority of parents love the small school that allows students to receive the individual attention they need to succeed. Most parents and students stated that the teachers are caring and devoted to their students. Neither parents nor students had any negative comments but would like to see more sports and extra curricular activities available.

The Academic Performance Index increased 42 points to 899. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are thrilled with the API score as well as the API statewide rank of 8.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was mainly above state averages except for 42% of 5th graders passed the science exam with the state at 60%, 33% of 7th graders passed the math exam with the average at 52%, and 38% of 8th graders passed the science exam with the state average at 66%.

Overall, the school is providing students with the educational tools they need to succeed. If you do have any concerns with the results mainly in science and math, it would be a good idea to address these prior to enrolling your child.
