Tree of Life Charter School Review

Tree of Life Charter School opened in 2000 to offer families an option other than traditional schools. The school uses the Montessori method in which desk and chairs are a thing of the past. Instead of lecturing, teachers move around the classroom from student to student. The school serves students in kindergarten through 7th grades.

Even though the school does not offer extra curricular activities or sports, the students are involved in a variety of activities throughout the day as well as field trips that brings learning to life.

The majority of parents only had positive comments stating that teachers and staff are very caring and it is more like a family gathering instead of going to school. The school stresses compassion for other and critical thinking, which is a great feature according to several parents. Students are very happy attending school and love the classrooms and activities.

The Academic Performance Index increased 63 points to 803. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are pleased that the score jumped 63 points but are not happy the school only ranked 2 out of 10 for the API statewide rank.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was below state averages or was not available at the time of this writing.

The school is providing a fair education, however, it would be in your best interest to talk with parents and teachers to ensure the learning environment is one in which your child will excel.
