The Language Academy of Sacramento Review

The Language Academy of Sacramento opened in 2004 to serve students that are economically disadvantages with varying ranges of English or Spanish fluency in kindergarten through 8th grades. The student body is predominantly Hispanic.

Along with core subjects, the school offers a variety of other programs, which include ASES, Community Involvement, Enrichment, Garden, SES, Soccer, and Physical Education classes.

The majority of parents expressed that their children had a wonderful experience with the Spanish immersion program and their children are now enjoying to school. Most parents are very happy with the curriculum, teachers, staff, and administration stating it is more like family than a school. Students enjoy going to school but would like to see more sports and other activities to join.

The Academic Performance Index increased 21 points to 792. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are pleased that the score jumped 35 points and realize that it does take time to reach goals, but that teachers are working hard as well as administration to reach the state goal.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was mixed. Examples include 85% of 5th graders passing the math exam with the average at 65%, 61% of 6th graders passing the math exam with the state at 55%, 70% of 7th graders passing the English exam with the average at 62%, and 61% of 7th graders passing the math exam with the state at 52%.

The school is doing an excellent job of providing the educational tools students need to succeed. To learn if the learning environment is the one for your child, you should take a tour.
