SunRidge Charter School Review

SunRidge Charter School opened in 2002 to offer families an alternative to traditional school settings. The school serves students in kindergarten through 8th grades with a Waldorf method of teaching that focuses on the whole child.

The school presents core subjects in an artistic, imaginative, and kinesthetic way to get children involved. The school day is not only focuses on core subjects, but also includes a variety of other subjects throughout the day including drama, speech, drawing, painting, woodwork, handwork, singing, cooking, gardening, movement, and instrumental music. The school also provides field trips that give students a real world-learning environment.

Most parents expressed that teachers are top notch and the school has a strong community where everyone feels like family. Parents are very pleased with the learning environment and the hands on teaching. Students state they really like their teachers and going to school. Most do not want miss even one day.

The Academic Performance Index increased 82 points to 868. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are thrilled that the school scored so high.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was mixed. Examples include 24% of 3rd graders passed the English exam with the state average at 48%, 56% of 5th graders passed the math exam with the state at 65%, and 82% of 7th graders passed the math exam with the state average at 52%. Parents were very excited to see these scores in most instances.

The school is providing a safe and nurturing learning environment in which students are excelling. If you have concerns, it would be a good idea to learn more about the test results before enrolling your child.
