Summit Public School: Tahoma Review

Summit Public School opened their Tahoma charter campus in 2011 for students in 9th through 12th grades to provide a college prep curriculum that will ensure students are ready to attend college upon graduation. The school provides a personalized curriculum is tailor made to fit the needs of each student.

The school does offer a large array of sports, extra curricular activities, and clubs to ensure that students can participate outside the classroom in areas of interest. Students stated they would like to see more activities and sports added for next year.

Most parents stated they are very pleased the school opened a campus in their area. The majority believed a college prep school was needed to help their children attain a high school diploma and be prepared for college. The teachers and staff work meticulously to ensure that each student is planning for college and is learning self-direction. Students stated that the school is great and that the teachers treat them very nice instead of talking down to them.

The Academic Performance Index was 848. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are so happy with this score as it is above the goal set forth by the state.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was not available at the time of this writing.

The California High School Exit Exam tests 10th graders mastering skills in English language arts and mathematics. The percentage of students passing the exams was not available at this time.

The school is doing a marvelous job of providing students with a high quality education. If you have concerns, it would be a good idea to learn more about the test results before enrolling your child.
