Summit Public School: Rainier Review

Summit Public School: Rainier opened in 2011 to provide students in 9th through 12th grades with an alternative to traditional schools. The school provides a personalized curriculum with a college prep curriculum that is tailor made to help all students succeed.

The school does offer a variety of sports, extra curricular activities, and clubs to ensure that students can participate outside the classroom in areas of interest. Students stated they would like to see more activities added to the list.

Most parents stated that teachers are driven to help each student on a personal level. The majority stated that their children are doing better in school and are really excited to be preparing for college while still in high school. Other parents are very impressed with the staff and administration that do not look at numbers but show concern for each student individually. Students are very happy attending the school and most said the teachers are very caring.

The Academic Performance Index was 822. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are so happy with this score as it is above the goal set forth by the state.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was not available at the time of this writing.

The California High School Exit Exam tests 10th graders mastering skills in English language arts and mathematics. The percentage of students passing the exams was not available at this time.

The school is doing a marvelous job of providing students with a high quality education. If you have concerns, it would be a good idea to learn more about the test results before enrolling your child.
