Stellar Secondary Charter High School Review

Stellar Secondary Charter High School opened in 2002 for families that are looking for an alternative to traditional schools. The school curriculum focuses on the state standards The school serves students in 8th through 12th grades.

At this time, the school does not offer any sports, student clubs, or other activities. This is very disappointing to students with many parents discussing these options with administration to begin offering other activities.

Parents had mixed comments regarding the school. Most are very pleased with the curriculum, teachers, and administration. Other parents are not happy with the lack of activities including sports, which they believe is a part of teaching students how to participate as a team player. Students are happy with the school besides the lack of sports and student clubs.

The Academic Performance Index showed an increase of 25 points to 810. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are very excited with the raise in points and are pleased to see the score above the statewide goal.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was mixed. Examples include 81% of 9th graders passed the Earth Science exam with the state average at 39%, 30% of 10th graders passed the World History exam with the state at 46%, and 95% of 11th graders passed the English exam with the state average at 48%.

The California High School Exit Exam tests 10th graders mastering skills in English language arts and mathematics. 100% of students passed the English exam with the state at 83% and 82% passed the math exam with the state at 84%. Parents were very pleased with the results of these exams and know the teachers are helping their students succeed.

The school is providing a quality education in a caring and nurturing environment. If you have any concerns, it would be a good idea to talk with other parents and teachers to ensure the learning environment is right for your child.
