St. Hope Public School 7 Review

St. Hope Public School 7 opened in 2003 as a charter school providing students with an option to traditional schools for students in kindergarten through 8th grades. The student body is diverse but is predominantly African American with a percentage of 79%. The school uses a curriculum that is standards based but work to ensure students go beyond expectations.

Along with core subjects, the school offers other activities and clubs including leadership, game theory, community service, art, music, hip-hop, theater, drama, creative writing, business & communication, and sports like softball, basketball, soccer, and flag football.

Most parents are thrilled with the way their children are learning and even preparing to attend college as early as kindergarten. A few parents on the other hand, stated that the school is strict and that if your child does not fit in the mold, they will not do well. Students expressed they enjoy going to school and really like their teachers.

The Academic Performance Index showed a decline of 20 points to 891. The statewide goal is 800. Parents were not pleased with the drop in points but were not concerned at all since they are still above the statewide goal. Along with this, the API rank for the school is 9 out of 10, making parents very happy.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was above average in all grade levels and all subjects. Parents love this fact and know their children are receiving a quality education.

The school is doing an excellent job of providing students with a quality education. If you have any concerns, it would be a good idea to talk with teachers and ensure the learning environment is a good fit for your child before enrolling.
