South Valley Prep & Arts School is a charter school that opened in 2011 offering a college prep based curriculum that blends the arts with athletics. South Valley Prep & Arts School is part of the Skyline School System providing an alternative learning environment for students in 5th through 8th grades.
Skyline Schools are a system of charter schools that was founded in 2000 and uses the same college based curriculum across all their schools. The curriculum is created by a group of teachers via a program known as Action Research, Best Practices, and Professional Learning Communities that provides a horizontal and vertical arrangement for grade and content levels for all schools. The schools use the curriculum but have the flexibility to modify the curriculum according to the needs of the school as well as the needs of each student individually. The school also offers other programs along with core subject, which includes Math STEM Education, Engineering, Science, Technology, Leadership, and Character Education.
Parents are very happy that the school is in their community and providing an alternative to public education. The teachers work with students so they can use their creativity while learning core subjects and making new friends. The small class size is perfect for students as they can receive the attention they need and feel safe. Students are learning quickly and often above their grade level.
The AIMS series of exams scores have not been published but if you look at other Skyline Schools, you can see that percentages of students that passed the exams are higher than state averages. If the school is using the same system, then it is more than likely a wonderful school providing the educational tools needed to succeed.
