South Sutter Charter School Review

South Sutter Charter School opened in 2005 for students in kindergarten through 12th grades. The school focuses on providing parents with the tools needed to provide a quality home schooling education as well as community based instruction. The school offers individualized curriculums that are based on the learning style as well as the functioning grade level of each student.

At this time, the school does not offer extra curricular activities, student clubs, or sports.

Parents are very pleased that the school provides them with all the educational tools, supplies, and resources needed to give their children a wonderful education. Students are very happy they can learn at home or in other areas without attending a brick and mortar school. The only negative comments were regarding extra curricular activities. Parents are hoping that the school can work with the community in order to provide students with other activities.

The Academic Performance Index was 722. The statewide goal is 800. Parents would like to see this score increase.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was below average in all grade levels and subjects. Examples include 55% of 5th graders passed the Science exam with the state at 60%, 39% of 3rd graders passed the English exam with the state average at 48%, and 32% of 2nd graders passed the math exam with the state at 64%.

the California High School Exit Exam tests 10th graders mastering skills in English language arts and mathematics. In English, 75% of students passed the English exam with the state average at 83% and in math 71% passed with the state at 84%.

The school is providing families that wish to home school with the tools needed for their children to succeed, however, the results of the exams were not very impressive. It would be a good idea to talk with administration regarding the exams prior to choosing this school for your child.
