South Ridge High School opened in 2006 as a charter high school offering a challenging academic program that focuses on personal growth and individualized instruction. South Ridge High School is part of the Leona Group that emphasis their philosophy across all the schools in their system which includes that all children can and will learn no matter their educational, economic, or ethnicity disadvantages. All schools offer free tuition and do not discriminate in any fashion to ensure that all children have the opportunity to receive a quality education. The school offers small class size with nurturing and dedicated teachers. Along with core subjects, the school also offers dance, painting, basketball, football, baseball, soccer, cheerleading, tennis, computer arts, film production, drawing, drama, physical education classes, cross-country, softball, volleyball, track, newspaper, student council, debate, science & technology, and yearbook.
The school has recently received some bad reviews since the new change of administration. The school was very strict and students knew the rules well, however, the school is becoming lack in rules and the way in which they keep the students safe and secure. On the other hand, students were learning very well and doing great in previous years. Bullying was not tolerated and all students were accepted regardless of any disabilities they may have. All students were treated as equals by teachers and staff; however, as stated by a few parents things have changed for the worst. Students have expressed that the school and curriculum was very good and prepared them for the tradition from high school to college.
If you look at the AIMS series of exams, you will see that students in 10th grade passed the exams with percentages above state average. If the scores have anything to do with the performance of the school, the school is doing quite well preparing students for life and for college. If you are concerned about the comments of parents after the new administration were hired you can always tour the school and talk with teachers and parents to make sure your child be comfortable at the school.
