Sonoran Science Academy opened their Davis Monthan campus in 2009 for students in 6th through 12th grades. The curriculum offers college prep/liberal arts with a focus on science, math, and technology. The school works with students to ensure they are prepared for the ever-changing world in technology. The school offers college level classes, advancement placement, along college dual enrollment courses.
Along with core subjects, students that wish to participate in sports, extra curricular activities, and clubs can choose from drama, drawing, chorus, dance, photography, computer arts, band, film production, basketball, football, physical education classes, softball, volleyball, tennis, newspaper, student council, science & technology, yearbook, multimedia, and yearbook.
Parents are happy they have an alternative to traditional school and with the way in which their children are learning. The only complaint was that a few parents think that the teachers give too much homework especially in kindergarten. Homework every night of the week for younger students just seems like a bit much. However, many parents are very pleased with the way the children are excelling and learning with most doing schoolwork that is beyond their grade level.
If you look at the percentage of students that passed the AIMS series of tests, you can determine for yourself if the school is providing the educational tools needed for your child to succeed. The percentage of 6th, 7th, 8th, and 10th graders that passed the exams were higher than the state average in all core subjects.
From the positive remarks from parents and the great percentage of students that passed the AIMS exams the school is providing an excellent education where students are succeeding above average. However, to ensure the school is a good fit for your child, you should take a tour and talk with parents of other students.
