Self Development Charter School Review

Self Development Charter School opened in 2001 in Mesa for students in kindergarten through 7th grades. The school offers small class size with accelerated programs. The curriculum focuses on critical thinking skills, mathematical thinking, and inquiry based science while challenging students with a rigorous program. The school offers an array of activities along with core subjects including field trips with examples being Riparian Exhibit, Arizona Historical Museum, and Challenger Space Station. The school also has a few clubs and sports for those that wish to join including math counts club, violin program, science fair, sports club, and dance club.

There are only positive comments regarding Self Development Charter School. Parents talked about the curriculum being at least two grades above traditional schools, caring highly qualified teachers, testing preparation, and just how wonderful the acceleration program is for their students. All parents stated their children love the school, talk about what they learn, and are eager to go to school. Students that enrolled in a school after completing 7th grade at Self Development Charter School were placed in honor programs or into high school due to the high quality education they received at the school. The only negative remark was regarding the school needing more hands on experiencing especially in science. The extra programs help students want to learn and experience all the great programs while having fun and learning.

The percentage of students passing the AIMS series of exams across all courses was in the 90% to 100%. This is an excellent example of a quality school that ensures students are prepared for the remainder of their school years. Of course, even with all the praises and the great AIMS scores, you should visit the school to make sure it is best for your child.
