Santa Rosa Charter School Review

Santa Rosa Charter School opened in 1995 for students in kindergarten through 6th grades. The school offers an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program. The school focuses on the whole child to ensure development of each student academically, socially, physically, culturally, and emotionally.

Along with core subjects, Santa Rosa Charter School offers choir, drama, and gardening. Many students stated they would like to see more activities and sports offered. Some specifically stated soccer and baseball.

Students that have graduated from Santa Rosa Charter School stated the school is like one huge family with caring staff and teachers that truly help you reach your goals. Several parents on the other hand like the curriculum but are not the learning environment. A few stated that bullying is out of control and is ignored by teachers and staff. The staff as reported by parents shows favoritism but not all parents feel the same. Some parents believe the school is providing an excellent education for all students.

The Academic Performance Index showed an increase of 15 points from the previous year to a score of 899. The statewide goal is 800. The majority of parents state that the score shows the school is doing an exceptional job.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was mainly above average across the board in all grade levels and all subjects. Parents stated that this a wonderful sign that the school is doing an exceptional job of providing their students with a wonderful education.

The school is meeting state standards and providing students with a great education. However, if you have any concerns about the learning environment, it would be a good idea to tour the school.
