San Tan Learning Center Review

The San Tan Learning Center opened in Gilbert in 2008 with a curriculum based on the Montessori method. When the school first opened it was a preschool and kindergarten in 2006, however, by 2008 the need for alternative education for elementary students was noted. The school provides an exceptional educational environment for students that are completely different from traditional school settings. The entire student body is more like a huge family that work together to learn and grow.

In order to learn more about the school, you must first understand the Montessori method. The classroom is based on language, math, sensorial, and practical life. Children are provided with the tools they need to deep and grow independence and concentration. Each classroom is designed to help students grow socially and academically and strives to meet the needs of each child. Instead of placing students in classrooms with the same age, the school offers a multi age community with older students as leaders.

The entire school is kid friendly with classrooms offering kid sized furniture that ensure they are comfortable and ready to learn. Students are allowed to explore their environment and make decisions on their own within limits.

Parents are divided on the quality of the school. A few parents are not happy with the open concept and state that the small classrooms are too tiny. The half days that are stuck into the school week are not very helpful since the school does not offer any after school care. This can be a very difficult problem for parents that work full time. On the other hand, most parents are very pleased with the way their children are learning and growing. Some parents expressed that the school does not stick to schedules, which can be quite confusing. Students enjoy going to school, love their teachers and have made friends.

By looking at the percentage of students that passed the AIMS series of exams, in the majority of cases, all grades had higher percentages of students passing the exams in all core subjects than the state average. In order to make sure the school is a good fit for your child and family, you should learn more about the Montessori method as it is very different from traditional schools.
