Roseland Charter School Review

Roseland Charter School opened in Lakeside in 2004 to offer families the opportunity to give their children a college prep education in high school with a challenging curriculum and tutoring programs. The school serves students in 9th through 12th grades.

The school curriculum is based on a college model where students can prepare for their years ahead at college. The curriculum focuses on the principles of college prep, social justice, community leaders, self-motivation, and advocacy, initiative, appreciation for the environment, community service and education with a technology based influence.

Parents are very pleased with the teaching formats offered and the teachers that are just plain awesome! Parents stated that the teachers are very attentive, fun, engaging, helpful and they really listen to their students. Students also love the teachers and say whenever they need help it is always available. The only downside as mentioned by students is the lack of sports and extra curricular activities.

The Academic Performance Index showed an increase of 3 points from the previous year to a score of 748. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are happy with the increase but are hoping that the school can increase the number to compete with the state average.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was a mixture of test results both above and below the state averages across the board in grades 6th through 11th. Parents stated that with some of the exams being below state averages they have spoken with teachers to learn the best way to help improve their student’s scores.

The California High School Exit Exam tests 10th graders mastering skills in English language arts and mathematics. The percentage of students passing the English exam was 90% in English with the average at 83% and in math 83% passed with the average at 84%.

With scores and percentages as seen above, you can be sure that the school is working to become the best for you and your family. At Roseland Charter School, the teachers really do care and want all students to succeed. To ensure the learning environment is best for your child, you should take a tour.
