Rocklin Academy opened in 2001 as a public charter school serving students in kindergarten through sixth grades with a core knowledge curriculum. The school teaches Spanish at all grade levels, blends Junior Great Books into the language art courses, and uses Saxon Math. The community is very pleased that the school opened in their community to provide students and families with an alternative to traditional schools.

The major focus is on academics even though the school does offer events and other activities throughout the year. Most parents expressed they would like to see more opportunities for their children to join in sports or clubs to help with their social development than the school offers. Students expressed they really like the school, the teachers are nice and they feel safe while going to school. Most parents expressed that the curriculum is challenging and it was mentioned that a few extra curricular are in the plans including drama and newspaper.

The Academic Performance Index showed a decline of 4 points from the previous year to a score of 959. The statewide goal is 800. Parents were not too concerned with the small drop as the school is still miles from the statewide goal.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was above state averages across the board in all grade levels and subjects with the majority in the 90 percentile.

The school is providing students with the educational tools to succeed. On the other hand, if you want to learn more about the sports and extra curricular activities that are going to be added it would be best to take a tour of the school and talk with administration.
