Riverside Preparatory School Review

Riverside Preparatory School opened in Lakeside in 2007 to offer families the opportunity to support their child’s education for students in Kindergarten through 12th grades. The curriculum is challenging with an approach that engages each student.

The school bases its education on the core subjects, but also offers various other activities and athletics for its students that wish to participate. Their elementary music program focuses on bringing out the whole musician in each child. That includes teaching with movement, games, recorders, solo/group singing, piano instruction and improvisation.

Parents are very pleased with the overall approach that the school has to learning. The teachers have both been stated as the best to not knowing what they are teaching, but that seems to depend on the individual situation. As for the students, they have expressed a problem with bullying which the school is working hard to correct. The students did say that they were learning a lot and the classes were fun, but they would love to see other activities and more sports offered.

The Academic Performance Index showed an increase of 5 points from the previous year to a score of 822. The statewide goal is 800. Parents were very happy with the score and pleased that the school increased from last year.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was a mixture of results that tested both above and below the state average across the board. Parents are happy with the results and know that the school is working to improve those scores that did not meet the state averages.

The California High School Exit Exam tests 10th graders mastering skills in English language arts and mathematics. The percentage of students passing the English exam was 92% in English with the average at 83% and in math 92% passed with the average at 84%.

With scores and percentages that are increasing each year, it is easy to see why Riverside Preparatory School is a well-liked school. To see if the school would be a perfect fit for your family, schedule a tour.
