River Springs Charter School Review

River Springs Charter School opened in Temecula in 2006 to offer families alternatives to traditional schools by offering classes in a classroom, online, or at home. The school takes pride in its ability to
tailor an optimized personal learning plan based on each child’s learning style and needs. The school serves students in kindergarten through 12th grades.

Along with core subjects, River Springs Charter School offers extra curricular activities including chorus, photography, dance, vocal lessons, instrumental music lessons, drama, poetry, and improve. Student clubs include robotics club and National Honor Society. The school does not offer any sports. Field trips are offered throughout the year for those attending the school as well as home schoolers such as Museums at Balboa Park, Legoland, The Secret Garden, Sea World, Museum of Tolerance, The Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center, and the San Diego Zoo, to name a few.

Parents are absolutely thrilled with the school that helps to discover the passion of each student and then create a tailor made curriculum that fits their learning style. Most parents expressed that their children are doing so much better since they started attending the school and really want to attend school. Students really like the flexibility and all the options and opportunities the school offers.

The Academic Performance Index showed an increase of 22 points from the previous year to a score of 750. The statewide goal is 800. Even though, the school did not reach the goal this year, parents are very pleased with the score and are very proud of their students.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was mixed with the percentage of students passing the exams in grades 2nd through 6th below average, 7th and 8th graders were below average in Algebra I and math, but above average in English, while 9th through 12th grade were below average in all subjects.

The California High School Exit Exam tests 10th graders mastering skills in English language arts and mathematics. The percentage of students passing the English exam was 86% in English with the average at 83% and in math 84% passed with the average at 84%.

The school is providing the educational tools needed in a safe and nurturing environment. To ensure the learning environment is one in which your child will excel, you should take a tour.
