Richmond College Preparatory K-5 Charter School Review

Richmond College Preparatory K-5 Charter School opened in 2006 to provide the community with an alternative to traditional schools with smaller class sizes and longer school days. The school serves students in Kindergarten through 5th grades.

Along with core subjects, the school offers sports and a variety of other extracurricular activities. This includes computer lab, Mexican folkloric, art, Spanish, gospel choir, a Montessori program for the 4th grade students, garden, guitar class, dance class and a G.A.T.E. program that includes sports.

Parents are thrilled with the curriculum and the teachers that focus on each student’s strengths. The parents are happy that their children are exposed to a variety of activities and a homework center after school. Students say that there is a lot of homework, but they are learning some exciting things. Many parents expressed they love the Montessori program and their children really enjoy attending school.

The Academic Performance Index showed a increase of 41 points from the previous year to a score of 796. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are pleased with the increase and hoping that the number reaches the state goal next year.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was above and below the state averages across the 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade exams which the English Language Exams being the areas of focus for improvements.

The school is providing students with an education that is paired with dedicated teachers and a variety of extracurricular activities. For more information contact the staff at Richmond College Preparatory K-5 Charter School for a tour.
