Renaissance Arts Academy Review

Renaissance Arts Academy opened in 2003 to provide the community with an alternative to traditional schools with a heavy influence on the arts. The school serves students in 6th through 12th grades. The school provides students with a classical education for all of its students.

Along with core subjects, the school offers extracurricular activities that focus on the arts and music. This helps to acknowledge the students’ strengths in these areas and develop them even more. Students can choose to play violin, viola, cello and bass. On the downside, students expressed that the school does not offer any sports or other extra curricular activities. Several students stated they would love to have a few sports added.

Parents are thrilled with the curriculum and the teachers that treat all students with respect with the gifts that they bring to the school. At Renaissance Arts Academy students can balance their life between becoming a musician and a well rounded scholar. Students love the arts program, but say that the school has drama. Other students are not as pleased with the extra curricular activities especially those that would like to take creative writing or participate in sports.

The Academic Performance Index showed an increase of 29 points from the previous year to a score of 906. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are pleased with the overall number and the large increase from last year’s numbers.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was above the state averages across the 6th through 11th grade exams.

California uses the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) to test high school students’ skills in English language arts and mathematics. The students at Renaissance Arts Academy surpassed the state averages o both exams with scores of 100%.

The school is providing students with an exceptional education with the arts being the main focus. Parents and students alike love the school and the test scores speak for themselves. For more information contact the school for a tour today.
