Rafer Johnson Junior High Review

Rafer Johnson Junior High opened in 1996 to serve students in 7th and 8th grades. The school prepares students for school and life after school with high academic standards in a small town setting. The school focuses on stability within a loving and caring environment.

Along with core subjects, the school offers sports and other extracurricular activities. This includes track, basketball, baseball and softball. Many students stated they would like to see other activities and student clubs also offered. A few gave examples such as chess club, cheerleading, and band.

Parents are thrilled with the curriculum and the teachers at the school. They stated that the teachers worked well with each student and listened to their concerns. Parental involvement was also rated very high. The students love the sports and say that every day is exciting.

The Academic Performance Index showed neither a decrease nor increase of points from the previous year. Their score was 804. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are pleased with the number and are hoping for a larger increase next year.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was both above and below the state averages across the 7th and 8th grade level exams.

The school is providing students with a great education with teachers that really do care. For more information, schedule a tour to learn if the school is a good fit for your family.
