Price Middle School Review

Price Middle School opened in 2003 to provide the families with an alternative to traditional schools with home schooling opportunities. The school serves students in 6th through 8th grades with a standards based curriculum, dedicated teachers, opportunities with enrichment programs, and a student population that is diverse just like the real world.

Along with core subjects, the school offers sports and other extracurricular activities for its students that wish to participate. This includes cross-country, track and field, volleyball, basketball and soccer. Activities include honor society, music inspired classes and courses for English learners. Some students explained they would like to see yearbook and cheerleading added to the activities.

Parents are thrilled with the curriculum and the teachers at Price Middle School. Many parents expressed that the teachers have inspired their children to work hard. Some parents have mentioned concerns over bullying and how some of the teachers are lackluster. The school has high expectations for its students which some parents like and some parents do not. Students were mixed with their opinions as well with some stating that there are bullies in the school but overall the school is safe.

The Academic Performance Index showed an increase of 10 points from the previous year to a score of 874. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are pleased with the score and know that hard work does pay off.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was both above and below the state averages across the 6th, 7th and 8th grade exams. For the 7th grade students 100% passed their Algebra I exam over the state average of 86%.

The school is providing students with an education that parents love. The rules might be strict, but that challenges the students to do better and prepare for high school and beyond. For more information contact the school for a tour.
