PPEP TEC – Manuel Borjorquez Learning Center Review

Manuel Borjorquez Learning Center charter school is managed by PPEP TEC and opened in 2000 in Bisbee. The school utilizes a computer based curriculum unlike traditional school, which offers students the opportunity to work at their own pace. The school also offers accelerated learning program so for those that want to graduate early can accomplish their goals in three years. The school provides an education for students in 10th through 12th grades with an average enrollment of 34 students per year.

One of the major curriculum differences with Manuel Borjorquez Learning Center and traditional schools is their school to work electives. This along with volunteer programs in their community prepares students for joining the workforce upon graduation.

The school also offers day, afternoon, or night classes with small class sizes, free tuition, and qualified teachers that work diligently to help students achieve their goals. Parents and students alike like the small class size that provides a one on one learning experience to help ensure they reach their goals.

Each campus has a different variety of sports, extra curricular activities, and student clubs. A few of the options that may be found at Manuel Borjorquez Learning Center include service learning, prom, student council, gardening, soccer, basketball, LULAC, yearbook, and girl scouts youth leadership, as examples.

The percentage of students that passed the AIMS series of tests in 10th grade is not very impressive at all. In reading 27% passed the exam, in science 0%, while in writing 14%, and in math 0% passed.

Since the exam scores are quite low it would be best to talk with other parents and the teachers to learn more about the curriculum. The administration may be able to explain the low test scores. Just because the AIMS scores are low does not necessarily mean the school is not improving with more students graduating.
