PPEP TEC – Cesar Chavez Learning Center Review

PPEP TEC opened the Cesar Chavez Learning Center in San Luis in 2000. The charter school offers an alternative to traditional schools by providing a computer-based curriculum. Teachers are present to help students that may need extra help. The accelerated curriculum allows students to graduate earlier than in traditional schools while providing students with an array of school to work electives.

The staff and teachers work closely with each to make sure they are sticking to their goals and their own schedule to graduate and join the work force. The school offers day, evening, and afternoon classes so students can work or do other activities.

Students and parents both enjoy the flexibility that the Cesar Chavez Learning Center has brought to the community where students can learn at their own pace as well as enjoy attending school at the time that is best for them instead of the traditional learning environment.

According to the which campus students attend, PPEC TEC offers a variety of extra curricular activities which may include LULAC, soccer, service learning, gardening, prom, yearbook, basketball, girl scouts youth leadership, and student council, to name a few. Students love the opportunities offered by the school including the volunteer options in their own community. This helps increase their workability after graduation.

The percentage of students that passed the AIMS series of tests in 10th grade is better than other campuses in the PPEP TEC group. In reading, 53% passed the exam with the state average at 80%; in science only 8% passed with the state average at 42%, while in writing 20% passed with the state average at 70%, and in math only 12% passed with the state average at 60%.

If your child is not doing well in traditional school, then this school may be your answer. However, since it is computer based, your child will need to put forth effort to succeed. It would be best to tour the school and learn more about the curriculum to make sure it is a good fit for you family.
