Pivot Charter School – North Valley Review

Pivot Charter School opened their North Valley campus in 2011 to provide the community with an alternative to traditional schools. The school serves students in 6th through 12th grades with an average enrollment of 20 students per year. The school offers a standards based curriculum with a brick and mortar school as well as online options. Parents are very pleased with the personal and individualized lesson plans. Students are happy that they have access to courses online any time.

Along with core subjects, the school does not offer sports, which is a major complaint of many students. On the other hand, the school does offer extra curricular activities including drawing, creative writing, graphics, and film production. The school does not offer any student clubs, which is another issue with some students that would like to see a student government and yearbook available.

Parents and students alike are very pleased with the curriculum and the caring teachers. Some students expressed that the school is helping them feel better about themselves due to the respect and attention the teachers and staff provide. Many also stated the flexible schedule is awesome. A few students stated that the lack of sports and clubs is a huge letdown, as they would like to be involved in other activities.

The Academic Performance Index was not available at this time. The statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The California High School Exit Exam tests 10th graders mastering skills in English language arts and mathematics.

The results of the California Standards Tests and the California High School Exit Exam were not available at the time of this writing.

It would be a good idea to take a tour of the school to ensure the learning environment will fit the needs of your family. It would also be best if you asked about the scores of the exams prior to enrolling your child.
