Piner-Olivet Charter School Review

Piner-Olivet Charter School opened in 1996 to serve students in 7th and 8th grades. The school prepares students for their future with a creative curriculum paired with a team of two teachers per child for their core classes. Project based learning is the main focus of this school.

Along with core subjects, the school offers sports and other extracurricular activities for students that wish to participate such as basketball.

Parents are thrilled with the curriculum and the two teacher program. They love that the school is small and focused on each individual child. Parental involvement is also very strong at this school pleasing parents. Students love their teachers and feel very prepared for their move into high school. Some students expressed that they would like to see more activities.

The Academic Performance Index showed an increase of 16 points from the previous year to a score of 867. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are pleased with the number and the fact that it increased from the previous year as well as exceeding the goal set by the state

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was above the state averages for the students on both the 7th and 8th grade exams and across all subjects.

The school is providing students and parents with a delightful educational experience. It would still be in your best interest to take a tour of the school and decide if it is the right fit for your family.
