Personalized Academics and Computer Education (PACE) Preparatory Academy – Camp Verde Review

Personalized Academics and Computer Education Preparatory Academy referred to as PACE opened their charter school in Camp Verde in 2000 for students in 9th through 12th grades. The school has an average enrollment of 50 students per year. The school strives to provide students with the tools needed to become self-motivated life long learners. The school provides a completely computer driven education that helps students excel as well as individualized programs for special need students.

The models used for the curriculum includes honors track, independent study, and accelerated credit learning with extended school days, part time study, and year round classes. The only club available is yearbook.

Parents expressed how much they like that the school is in their area and provide them an alternative to public education. The small class size and more individualized education is the major draw to the school.

Students participated in the AIMS series of exams which measures if students are mastering core subjects. In the state of Arizona, 10th graders must pass the exams in order to graduate high school. The percentage of students that passed the exams at the Camp Verde campus in reading was 67%, which was close to 20% below state average, no scores were available for science percentages, only 33% passed the writing exam with the state average at 70%, and math percentages were 0% below state average.

It would be in the best interest of your child’s education to learn more about the school by taking a tour and talking with other parents that have children attending the school before enrolling your child. The low percentage of students passing the exam is cause for concern with the curriculum and educational tools provided to students.
