Pathways Charter School Review

Pathways Charter School opened in 2002 to serve students in Kindergarten through 12th grades. The school prepares students for their career in education and beyond with credentialed teachers, a varied curriculum, access to a college-style course schedule, workshops and field trips during the school year.

Along with core subjects, the school offers workshops, field trips and other activities for its students. Both students and parents would like more choices when it comes to activities. Most expressed that the school should choose team sports more like traditional schools were students can compete with other schools in the area.

Parents are thrilled with the curriculum and the teachers that focus on each student’s success. Several parents stated their children like that the school is varied from a traditional school setting where the teachers can actually provide one on one teaching. The students would like more extracurricular activities instead of just focusing on the curriculum.

The Academic Performance Index showed an increase of 5 points from the previous year to a score of 743. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are happy with the increase, but would like to see the score increase.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was a mixture of test scores for the students at Pathways Charter School. Math is the area where the most improvement needs to be made. Parents and teachers look at this as an opportunity to push the students and raise the test scores.

California uses the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) to test high school students’ skills in English language arts and mathematics. The Math exam is where the students fell below the state average.

The school is providing students with an education that will be the foundation of their future. Take a tour, meet with the teachers and decide if Pathways Charter School would be a perfect fit for you family. If you have any concerns regarding the math scores, you may wish to talk with administration to learn what is planned to help students raise their test scores before enrolling your child.
