Para Los Ninos Charter Middle School Review

Para Los Ninos Charter Middle School opened in 2008 to provide students in 6th and 7th grades with an option over traditional school settings with childcare also provided. The school prepares students for their future with a challenging academic program emphasizing discipline.

Along with core subjects, the school offers foreign language classes, art classes and physical education classes. Several students are not happy with the lack of extra curricular activities, sports, and student clubs. They would love the opportunity to participate in sports and to enjoy clubs such as media arts and student government.

The opinion of the school is very high with parents proud of the achievements of their children since they have been attending the school. Students expressed they like the school but as mentioned above they would like to see more than just after school programs while parents appreciated these programs. Some parents stated that the staff and teachers are very helpful but at time, the staff does not take the time to listen to parents concerns.

The Academic Performance Index decreased by 36 points from the previous year to a score of 795. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are not pleased decrease but not happy with the overall number and are working with teachers to learn why the school had such a drop.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was not available at the time of this writing for the 7th grade students, but for the 6th grade students their scores were below that of the state averages showing where improvements need to be made.

Overall, the school is providing students a quality education by the comments of parents. It would be in your best interest to schedule a tour and ask questions regarding the exams to learn if the school is meeting state standards.
