Pacific View Charter School – Oceanside Review

Pacific View Charter School opened their Oceanside campus in 1999 as to provide students in Kindergarten through 12th grades with an option for their educational needs. The school provides independent study and has an online alternative as well.

Along with core subjects, the school offers in person and online events with very few extracurricular activities. This is a downside expressed by parents and students. Students would like to see more activities where they can enjoy various clubs and participate in sports with other students attending the school.

The opinion of the school is very high, as the school is known for its award-winning curriculum. The reviews are mixed with most parents proud of the achievements of their children with a large number of students raising their reading levels while other parents expressed their concern over the director and certain teachers. Students expressed they like the school and the chance to learn at home at their own pace, but as mentioned above they would like to see more than just after school programs.

The Academic Performance Index decreased by 15 points from the previous to a score of 688. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are not happy with the score and are working with the school to help students raise the score.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was consistent with the state averages on the English Language exams while the Math exams were where the numbers fell short.

The California High School Exit Exam tests 10th graders mastering skills in English language arts and mathematics. Students at Pacific View Charter School – Oceanside showed a score of 79% compared to 83% on the English exam and 73% on the Math exam compared to 84%.

Overall, the school is providing students with an alternative to traditional school settings; however, the learning environment may not fit your child’s needs. It would be a good idea to take a tour and learn more about the curriculum.
