Oakdale Charter High School Review

Oakdale Charter High School opened in 1996 for students in grades ninth through twelfth. The curriculum is centered on community-based independent programs, cooperative activities and supplemental learning projects. This creates a well-rounded student as well as a productive member of society as explained by teachers and parents alike.

Oakdale thinks outside the box by pushing the boundaries of a traditional classroom setting. That includes offering home based instruction as well as job shadowing and distance learning via the internet. Parents think this is a great choice as every student learns in his or her own way and at their own pace.

Students have a lot to be thankful for when it comes to Oakdale Charter High School. They say that the staff here really pushed them to succeed therefore preparing them for what comes next after high school. Parents were just happy that the kids were so prepared for the real world. Parents stated that teachers are very caring and nurturing which makes the school one of the best in the area.

The Academic Performance Index showed a score of 657 which was 3 points down from last year’s numbers. Parents are concerned with this number and would like to see the figure closer to the statewide goal of 800. The staff and teachers at Oakdale Charter High School are working to improve this number daily.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

In each grade tested there were areas that needed to be improved. The test results were not dramatically under the state averages, just enough to warrant more work in those areas. For example, 33% of 9th grade students passed the Earth Science exam with the state at 39%.

For the state exit exam the Math results were unavailable, but the English results showed a score of 83% which tied the state average.

If you have any concerns regarding sending your child to Oakdale Charter High School, schedule a tour and speak with the teachers.
